Rolex remains one of the strongest names in watchmaking, but among collectors with established taste, the conversation often moves elsewhere. Smaller cases, unusual proportions, precious metals, discreet references and watches with almost no obvious status signalling are becoming far more interesting. The appeal is not necessarily rarity for rarity’s sake. It is the pleasure of wearing something recognisable only to people who know what they are looking at.
